Kilim dhurrie is a term for a flat woven rug utilized by cultures around the world for thousands of years. The term kilim comes from Persian, and dhurrie is from Hindi. These rugs are often colorful with a patterned, durable usage. They can be used in many ways - as flooring surfacing, as wall hangings, or decorative covering.


Kilim dhurries can be constructed with a textile technique of flat weave. Flat weave refers to the structure of the rug existing in interlocked system of horizontal and vertical threads that creates a pattern in textile form. There are pile rugs that create a loom with loops to create a rug with texture, but flat weave or dhurrie kilim rugs do not exist this way.
